Growing Awareness

We are caught in an epidemic of busyness, where being rushed is a badge of honour.

We lurch from one task to another, distracted and scrambling to hold all our thoughts in order. We consistently feel that we are failing to bring our best self, getting further and further behind on the treadmill of life.

We are disconnected from our own experience. We become reactionary to the world around us, and our internal demands.

Perhaps we are so busy trying to meet all the expectations of others (and ourselves) that we wake up and realise that there is just nothing left in the tank.

The chances are that in a world that promotes hard work as the only answer to increasing productivity, you weren’t ever taught to become aware of the impact of driving yourself beyond your limits.

While we may manage short bursts where we push ourselves to extremes, if we maintain this for long periods it has consequences.

We could wait a lifetime for the world to slow down… or we can learn to pause despite the noise.

In a busy world it may feel impossible to slow down. Sometimes we need support to learn how to pause. To take stock, tune in and broaden our perspective on the situation.

Stop reacting and begin responding

Growing our awareness means we aren’t caught in the cycle of reacting… we learn to tune into our experiences and observations of ourselves and the world around us.

Take 2 minutes to practice growing your awareness:

These important steps of awareness, understanding and empathy are the foundation from which we can consider what wise action to take. Action–this time–which includes the whole picture, so that solutions are broader, richer, more holistic and thorough.
